Iran grabs 3 golds on 5th day of Asian Wrestling Championships

ULAN BATOR, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Iran won three gold medals from the five men's freestyle events competed on the fifth day of the 2022 Asian Wrestling Championships here on Saturday.

In the 65kg category, Rahman Amoudzadkhalili of Iran defeated Indian Bajrang Punia for the title, while bronze medals went to Japanese Kaiki Yamaguchi and Uzbekistani Abbos Rakhmonov.

His compatriot Ali Savadkouhi claimed gold in the 79kg category after beating Indian Gourav Baliyan, with the bronze medals shared by Kyrgyzstani Arsalan Budazhapov and Japanese Yudai Takahashi.

Mohammadhossein Mohammadian defeated Mongolian Ulziisaikhan Batzul in the final match of the 97kg category, collecting the third gold of the day for Iran and becoming the two-time Asian champion. Kazakhstani Mamed Ibragimov and Indian Satywart Kadian settled for the bronze.

In the other two events completed on Saturday, Japanese Taishi Narikuni won the 70kg title after defeating Kyrgyzstani Ernazar Akmataliev, wihle Indian Ravi Kumar was crowned at the 57kg over Kazakhstani Rakhat Kalzhan, becoming the three-time Asian champion.

The 35th edition of Asian Wrestling Championships, which started on Tuesday, will conclude after another five events of men's freestyle on Sunday.
