BEIJING, April 23 (Xinhua) -- April 23 marks World Book Day.

First celebrated in 1995, World Book Day, also known as International Day of the Book, is an annual event organized by the UNESCO to promote reading, publishing and copyright.

From the stunning beauty of Tianjin Binhai Library, a cultural landmark of Tianjin, to Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a massive unique library and cultural symbol of the Egyptian Mediterranean coastal city of Alexandria, we have selected some of the most amazing pictures of libraries around the world captured by Xinhua photographers.

Photo taken on April 21, 2022 shows an exterior view of the Bodleian Libraries in the University of Oxford, Britain. As the library service supporting the University of Oxford, Bodleian Libraries include the principal University library, the Bodleian Library, which has been a library of legal deposit for 400 years, as well as 27 other libraries across Oxford including major research libraries and faculty, department and institute libraries.

Together, the Libraries hold more than 13 million printed items, over 80,000 e-journals and outstanding special collections including rare books and manuscripts, classical papyri, maps, music, art and printed ephemera. (Xinhua/Li Ying)
