RIO DE JANEIRO, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Three-time world surfing champion Gabriel Medina has revealed plans to end a five-month break from the sport in May.

The 28-year-old is planning to return to the World Surfing League (WSL) circuit at the G-Land event in Indonesia in late May.

"I'm motivated," he told Brazilian sports television program Esporte Espetacular. "I'm back to my athlete routine, waking up early, eating well. Everything is back to normal. Let's go. I'm going to Indonesia, it's a new stage in G-Land. That makes me even more motivated."

WSL officials confirmed Medina had been given a wildcard entry for the event.

Medina announced an indefinite hiatus from the sport in January, citing mental and physical fatigue.

The Brazilian is considered one of the most naturally gifted surfers of the modern era and is the reigning WSL world champion. He also won the title in 2014 and 2018.
