RIO DE JANEIRO, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Former Brazil boss Mano Menezes has been appointed manager of Internacional for the rest of the 2022 domestic season, the Brazilian Serie A club said on Wednesday.

"Internacional have reached an agreement with Mano Menezes to be our new head coach," read a statement on the Porto Alegre side's official website.

Menezes took charge of his first training session on Wednesday and will be in the dugout for Saturday's visit to Fluminense.

Internacional had been searching for a manager since sacking Alexander Medina last Friday amid a poor start to the domestic season.

Menezes's last coaching job was with Saudi Arabia's Al-Nassr, with whom he parted ways last September.

The 59-year-old has had spells in charge of Gremio, Corinthians, Flamengo, Cruzeiro, Shandong Luneng and Palmeiras, among other clubs, during a coaching career spanning more than two decades. He was the manager of Brazil's national team from July 2010 until November 2012.
