DAMASCUS, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Secondhand clothes have gained popularity in Syria, as the prices of brand-new clothes are out of reach for many consumers amid an economic crisis due to a protracted war as well as U.S. and Western sanctions.

In the capital city of Damascus, recollected children's outfits, menswear, and dresses were put on sale in the market to suit the needs of consumers of all ages.

Years of conflicts and sanctions have taken a heavy toll on Syria's economic and social development. According to the United Nations, about 80 percent of Syrians live below the international poverty line, compared with less than 30 percent before the war.
