MEXICO CITY, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Monterrey striker Rogelio Funes Mori will miss the rest of Mexico's Liga MX Clausura regular season because of a knee injury, the club said on Monday.
The 31-year-old will undergo arthroscopic surgery on Wednesday after feeling discomfort in his left knee while training.
"After scans and an assessment by a specialist, the decision was made to perform an arthroscopy to clean said joint," read a statement on Monterrey's official website. "Funes Mori is expected to gradually return to training within the next 10 to 14 days."
Monterrey are currently fourth in the 18-team standings with three games remaining in the regular season. The top four sides will automatically qualify for the quarterfinals while the teams ranked fifth to 12th will contest an elimination round to determine the other four places.
Funes Mori has scored 10 goals in 26 matches across all competitions this season. The Argentina-born Mexico international is expected to be fit in time for the Liga MX playoffs in May. ■
