BURIRAM, Thailand, April 15 (Xinhua) -- The young squads of Shandong Thaishan FC and Guangzhou FC suffered a devastating defeats respectively in their opening matches of AFC Champions League group stage on Friday by conceding a total of 12 goals.
Shandong was no match to its opponent Daegu FC as the South Korean side won 7-0, while Guangzhou lost 5-0 to Johor DT.
The Koreans found their first goal in the 15th minute as Lee Keun-ho converted a cross after his teammates broke through Shandong's defense from the right. Soon afterward, a blunder by Shandong's goalkeeper Cao Zheng allowed Daegu forward Zeca to score the first goal of his hat-trick performance of the match.
Zeca went on to score his second goal in the 26th minute, giving his team a 3-0 lead before halftime.
Daegu showed no signs of letting up in the second half as Hong Chul blasts the ball home in the 46 minutes to extend it to 4-0. Bruno Lamas then started his show first by curling the ball into the back of the nets in the 66th minutes before assisting Jung Chi-in and Zeca to finish the match 7-0.
As for Group I being played at Johor Bahru, Malaysia, the hosts led two-time AFC Champion League winner Guangzhou FC 3-0 at halftime with a double by striker Bergson and an own goal from Guangzhou's goal keeper He Lipan.
Bergson completed his hat-trick in the 52nd minute and later forced a foul from Guan Haojin, cutting Guangzhou down to 10 men. Johor DT's substitute Ramadhan Saifullah capped the final score at 5-0 in the 81st minutes. ■
