DENVER, the United States, April 13 (Xinhua) -- Denver, the capital city of U.S. state of Colorado, set an all-time record low temperature Wednesday at -12.2 degrees Celsius, shattering the previous all-time cold record for April 13 set in 2020 of -9.4 Celsius.

Denver is one of the most important economic and cultural centers of the Central region of the United States. It is located at a latitude of 39.73915, similar as Beijing or Valencia, Spain.

"That's unusual. Most record temperatures are broken by 1 or 2 degrees. The fact the record was broken by 5 degrees (Fahrenheit) is further proof how unusual it is to be so cold in mid-April," Denver CBS 4 noted.

The official thermometer for Denver, recorded at Denver International Airport (DIA), was 10 degrees Fahrenheit (-12.2 degrees Celsius) Wednesday morning, which broke the previous record low temperature for April 13.

Wednesday was also the coldest temperature in the normally mild high city this late in the season since 1953, NBC 9 News said.

The late season front descending from the north hit the high Rockies on Tuesday with up to 4 inches of snow and temperatures of 8 degrees Fahrenheit (-13.3 degrees Celsius), according to weather watchers in Marble, Colorado, near the famous ski resorts surrounding Aspen.

The lowest temperature ever recorded in Denver for April was minus 2 degrees Fahrenheit (-18.9 degrees Celsius) set on April 2, 1975, and the highest ever recorded in April was 90 degrees (32.2 degrees Celsius) on April 30, 1992, the National Weather Service noted.
