NAIROBI, April 12 (Xinhua) -- The Kenya Women's Deaf Football team has intensified their training in Nairobi ahead of their trip to the delayed 2021 Summer Deaflympics in Caxias Do Sul, Brazil which runs from May 1 to 15 with finishing among the medals their mission.

Head coach Ben Bella said Tuesday the team, alongside field-and-track, basketball, golf and handball teams, has been in camp since April 1.

Bella said his charges are aiming at making a good impression at the Games and singled out the defense, as the department that needs to spend more hours together ahead of the Games.

"Players are responding well to training. It is fortunate they were not training before we came to camp. I believe by the time we are traveling to Brazil, the team will be in good shape," he told journalists in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.

In Brazil, the team will face off against the hosts, defending champions Denmark, Japan and the United States in a round-and-robin format.

According to the tactician, the team might be forced to cope with a reduced squad of 19 players after some were dropped due to documentation.

Team captain Emily Adhiambo at the same time said their aim is to win a medal in Brazil with goalkeeper Aisha Muhamud exuding confidence that the team will perform well in the global event.

"We started our training last week and we are eagerly waiting to go to Brazil and show our potential. I believe we will bring the medals and make our President proud and be invited to the statehouse," the custodian added.
