BERLIN, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Germany would increase its financial aid to the Republic of Moldova from 35 million euros (38.4 million U.S. dollars) to 40 million euros, the country's Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) said on Tuesday.
The raised support is to help Moldova, the southern neighbor of Ukraine, respond to new challenges posed by taking in refugees, according to the BMZ.
Currently, Moldova hosts a large number of refugees from Ukraine, and is struggling with severe economic impacts such as rising gas prices and inflation, said the BMZ.
Besides financial aid, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz agreed to provide Moldova with a loan of 50 million euros. (1 euro = 1.10 U.S. dollars) ■
