SHENYANG, April 2 (Xinhua) -- Panjin, a coastal wetland city in northeast China's Liaoning Province, has seen a growing number of migratory birds as local ecological restoration efforts paid off.
Since entering the peak migrating season in 2022, more than 190,000 water birds of 43 species have arrived in the city's wetland, according to the local nature reserve.
Some rare birds species, including red-crowned cranes, oriental white storks, and squawk ducks, have also been spotted.
Panjin's wetland covers an area of 249,600 hectares, accounting for more than 61 percent of the city's total landmass.
In recent years, Panjin has seen remarkable results in creating a more suitable habitat for bird migration by boosting ecological restoration. This year, more than 500,000 migratory birds are expected to stop over at the wetland city.
