BEIJING, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Du Zhaocai, deputy minister of China's State General Administration of Sport, was elected as the President of the East Asian Football Federation (EAFF) at the 10th EAFF Congress in Doha, Qatar, on Friday.

Du is the only candidate and will serve in this position for the next four-year term that runs until 2026.

Du attended the conference online from Beijing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the election, Japan Football Association (JFA) President Kohzo Tashima, Hong Kong Football Association (HKFA) Vice Chairman Eric Fok Kai-shan and Korea Football Association General Secretary Chun Han-jin were elected as EAFF Vice Presidents.

EAFF was established in 2002 for the promotion of East Asian football. The main competition of EAFF is the E-1 Football Championship, formerly known as the East Asian Football Championship or the East Asian Cup, which is held every two years that includes both men's and women's football competitions.
