NAIROBI, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday vowed to continue investing in the modernization of training to help equip the country's security forces with adequate skills to deal with the challenges of an ever-evolving threat.
Kenyatta said that cooperation in education and training will strengthen the cohesion of the country's security organs and foster the multi-agency approach to operations that have proved very successful in addressing security matters.
"We have also undertaken far-reaching reforms to support your welfare and to facilitate you to best discharge the high burden of responsibility that has been bestowed upon you," he said in Lanet, Nakuru County, where he commissioned the first cohort of graduate general service officer cadets that have undergone a one-year professional training at the Kenya Military Academy (KMA).
The country has been investigating undisclosed financial budgets for training its security forces and modernizing its equipment to help deal with emerging security threats across the country. The investment has seen security forces receive year-long specialized training to combat the evolving transnational organized crime.
Kenya said it has been facing an insurgency along its porous border with Somalia as well as increasing insecurity and threats of terrorism in the counties on the Indian Ocean coast.
The president said during the commissioning that public investments in the security sector have not only secured the modernization of the training of the security forces but also ensured that training is abreast with the challenges of an ever-evolving security environment.
He said security threats the country faces cannot be defeated by military might alone and urged all Kenyans to work together in securing the country by strengthening national unity and observing the values of tolerance and brotherhood.
The President, who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF), lauded the KDF for its commitment to ensuring that the training provided to Kenyan troops adequately prepares them to operate effectively in both the contemporary and future security environments. ■
