WASHINGTON, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Amid the Ukraine crisis and surging inflation at home, the White House unveiled a budget request for the fiscal year 2023 on Monday, with proposals aimed at reducing the deficit but asking for a rise in military spending.
The comprehensive budget plan totaling 5.8 trillion U.S. dollars includes over 813 billion dollars for "national defense."
773 billion of it is for the Department of Defense, a 4.1-percent increase for the Pentagon compared with the previous fiscal year.
Data from a research group shows that as the world's largest military spender, the U.S. accounted for 39 percent of total military expenditure in 2020.
An analyst at the University of Pittsburgh said, while the U.S. has spent recklessly fighting wars and managing armed forces, "we do not have a government of, by, for the people." #GLOBALink
