Spanish Olympic Committee ruled out the bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games.

MADRID, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Alejandro Blanco, the president of the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) on Tuesday ruled out any chance of his country making a bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games.

Recent months have seen rumors that the Spanish capital city of Madrid could consider a fourth bid to host the Games after failing in previous ones, losing out to London in 2012, Rio in 2016, and Tokyo in 2020.

"I have had several meetings with the mayor of Madrid talking about this issue and Madrid, without a doubt, is a city that should try to host the Olympic Games, but it will not opt for the 2036 Games," said Blanco.

He said there could be the chance of a Spanish bid "for winter" Games, but highlighted that "the Paris Games (2024), Los Angeles (2028) and Brisbane (2032) have already been given and the recommendation that they (the International Olympic Committee) gave is for Madrid not to make a bid for 2036."

Blanco urged for "everyone to be calm," and insisted "Madrid's dream must not disappear," and that the best route to hosting the Olympics in the future was for "top-level events to resume in Madrid."
