GABORONE, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Botswana national football team, the 'Zebras' will play Tanzania in an international friendly match scheduled on March 26 in Tanzania, which will kick-start their journey to prepare for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
According to a report from the Botswana Football Association (BFA), the team will depart for Tanzania on Thursday and return on Sunday.
According to the interim head coach Mogomotsi Mpote, the match against Tanzania will give the team an opportunity to reset, as they have not been active for a long time. "The international friendly match is a positive step towards ensuring the team gets its rhythm and focuses ahead of the AFCON qualifiers," he said.
Botswana has only qualified for the continental showpiece once in 2012 and would be trying to make their second appearance. Botswana's group stage opponents will be decided at the end of the preliminary round of qualifiers. ■
