MOGADISHU, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Two al-Shabab terrorists who have been coordinating attacks in the Hiran region of central Somalia surrendered to government forces Thursday, the military said.
The Somalia National Army (SNA) said Abdifitah Ibrahim Mohamud and Osman Ibrahim Daud surrendered in Halgan town amid ongoing security operations to flush out members of the terrorist group in the region.
"They have denounced the ideology of the terror group," the SNA said in a brief statement.
Several al-Shabab leaders have in the recent past surrendered to government forces during the security operations in southern and central regions.
The security forces in northeastern Puntland's State have killed several terrorists and also destroyed al-Shabab hideouts in Golis Mountain in sting operation to subdue militants in the region. ■
