TIRANA, March 15 (Xinhua) -- The General Election Assembly of the Albanian Football Federation (AFF) re-elected Armando Duka as its president for the sixth consecutive time for a four-year term on Tuesday.
The election for the AFF president, which was supposed to be held on March 2, was postponed following a dispute with a regional football association.
A total of 37 members of the assembly, out of 43 members present in the voting process, voted in favor of Duka, while four votes went to another candidate for the post, Sulejman Starova, a former coach of the Albanian National Football team, while two votes were invalid.
Except for Duka and Starova, a third candidate was seeking to win the post of the AFF president, Dritan Shakohoxha, a well-known sports journalist in the country, who did not get any votes in favor.
However, the legal regularity of the process remains to be verified. Last month an Albanian court suspended Duka and two other senior officials from their posts.
In addition, over the past months AFF has had a dispute with the Tirana Municipality that is also a shareholder of one of the main member football associations in the country.
Representative of Tirana Municipality have accused AFF of corruption and manipulation of the voting process.
Following the election process Duka declared that he wanted to leave behind what has happened over the past two months, pledging the improvement of the current situation of Albanian football.
Born on Oct. 7, 1962 and graduated in 1986 from Tirana University majoring in economy, Duka was first elected as AFF president in 2002. ■
