COPENHAGEN, March 15 (Xinhua) -- The Danish government has reached an agreement with other political parties in the Parliament to accelerate the development of green fuels "for planes, ships, and trucks," the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities said Tuesday.

The Power-to-X (PtX) agreement, a plan for onshore and offshore renewable energy expansion in Denmark, aims to increase the country's electrolysis capacity by a massive 4 to 6 gigawatt (GW) by 2030, putting it in the "top three" energy producers in Europe, the ministry said in a statement.

If the ambitious targets are met, the agreement has the potential to reduce the carbon emissions by 2.5 to 4.0 million tonnes by 2030, including up to 2 million tonnes in the Danish balance sheet, it said.

According to the ministry, green fuel ambitions must be high in order to phase out fossil energy, reduce climate pressures, support green growth, and loosen Russia's grip on Europe's energy supply.

"Europe is intensely looking for alternatives to fossil energy and we are busy, both by becoming green and by becoming more independent" of Russian energy, said Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Dan Jorgensen in the statement.

The agreement consists of a 1.25 billion-Danish kroner (184.7 million U.S. dollars) subsidy scheme in the form of government tender that will support hydrogen production and create a more favorable environment for producers, building on a number of business support measures and pools.
