RIO DE JANEIRO, March 10 (Xinhua) -- Botafogo have reached an agreement to sign former Chelsea winger Lucas Piazon on loan, the Brazilian club said on Thursday.
The 28-year-old agreed to personal terms after completing a medical at the club's Rio de Janeiro headquarters earlier this week.
Botafogo confirmed the deal with a welcome message on social media alongside images of Piazon wearing the club's black and white shirt.
Piazon is currently contracted to Portuguese outfit Braga until December 2024.
After starting his career at Sao Paulo, Piazon earned a high-profile transfer to Chelsea in January 2012. But he made just three first-team appearances for the Premier League side before having loan spells at Malaga, Vitesse, Frankfurt, Reading, Fulham, Chievo, and Rio Ave.
Piazon joined Braga in January last year and scored six times in 42 appearances across all competitions for the club.
Two-time Brazilian Serie A champions Botafogo returned to Brazilian football's top tier in November after winning the 2021 Serie B title.
In December, American businessman John Textor bought a controlling stake in the club for an undisclosed amount. ■
