Yoon Suk-yeol leads S.Korean presidential election with 60 pct votes counted

SEOUL, March 10 (Xinhua) -- Yoon Suk-yeol of the main conservative opposition People Power Party, was leading in the South Korean presidential election with 60 percent of the total votes counted, election commission data showed Thursday.

Yoon garnered 48.49 percent of support at about 00:50 a.m. local time (1550 GMT Wednesday), according to the National Election Commission.

He was closely trailed by Lee Jae-myung of the ruling Democratic Party who won 48.04 percent.

Sim Sang-jung of the progressive Justice Party fell far behind with a support of 2.24 percent.

Lee led the vote counting when 10 percent of the votes were counted with 50.04 percent, higher than Yoon's 46.76 percent.

The difference narrowed with 49.63 percent for Lee and 47.08 percent for Yoon when 30 percent of the votes were counted.

Yoon came from behind after midnight, as the intermediate result continued to be released by the election watchdog.
