KABUL, March 8 (Xinhua) -- A well-known Afghan expert on international development has returned to Afghanistan, the Afghan caretaker government said on Tuesday.
"Sultan Massoud Daqiq, an Afghan expert on international development, returned home following 37 years in exile and was welcomed by a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Kabul airport," the government said in a statement.
Daqiq is a leading expert in the implementation of international humanitarian projects in Asia, Europe and Africa, and has been awarded the Medal of Merit by the president of Germany in 2006, according to the statement.
Many Afghan security forces and civil servants left Afghanistan following the takeover by the Taliban in August last year.
In recent months, Abdul Salam Rahimi, state minister for peace of the former Afghan government, several pilots of the Afghan airforce and a female mayor have returned to the country.
Efforts are underway to ensure that all Afghans who left the country return to Afghanistan, according to the statement. ■
