The United Nations Security Council held an emergency meeting Friday on the safety of nuclear facilities in Ukraine.
UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo called on all parties to work with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to ensure the safety of Ukraine's nuclear sites, voicing concern over Friday's fighting around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine.
China's permanent representative to the United Nations Zhang Jun also called on parties to the Ukraine conflict to act with caution and work together to ensure the safety of relevant nuclear facilities inside Ukraine.
A fire which has been extinguished broke out on Friday in a training building outside the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, the largest one in Europe, raising concerns over safety of nuclear facilities in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine military conflict.
