MEXICO CITY, March 2 (Xinhua) -- Uruguayan midfielder Ignacio Rivero scored late as Cruz Azul recovered from a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 draw at Tigres UANL in the Liga MX on Wednesday.
French striker Andre-Pierre Gignac gave the hosts the perfect start with a close-range strike in the 11th minute at Estadio Universitario. The 36-year-old has now netted seven goals in his past six league outings.
Juan Vigon doubled the lead with a cool finish on the half-hour mark.
But Cruz Azul refused to yield and Luis Abram pulled a goal back just before halftime by nodding home after a Juan Escobar cross.
Rivero equalized in the 92nd minute when he slotted into the bottom left corner after combining with Santiago Gimenez.
The result leaves Tigres third in the 18-team standings with 17 points from eight matches while Cruz Azul are fourth, three points further back.
Meanwhile, Pachuca moved to the top of the table after an 87th-minute strike from Roberto de la Rosa gave them a 1-0 win at Atlas.
The hosts were forced to play the entire second half with only 10 men after Jairo Torres was shown a straight red card for an ugly challenge on Miguel Tapias on the stroke of halftime. ■
