JERUSALEM, March 1 (Xinhua) -- The exports of agricultural produce from the Gaza Strip to Israel jumped by 142 percent year on year in the first two months of 2022, the Israeli authorities said Tuesday.
The January-February export figure amounted to 2,501 tonnes, up from 1,033 tonnes in the first two months of 2021, according to a statement by the Unit for Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT).
The increase coincides with extensive exports from the Gaza Strip into the West Bank, amounting to 14,250 tonnes since the beginning of 2022, compared to 13,642 tonnes in the same period last year.
The leading agricultural exports from Gaza include sweet potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, aubergines and strawberries, according to COGAT.
In addition, the Gaza fish exports to Israel and the West Bank were nearly doubled in February, reaching 67 tonnes compared to 34 tonnes in February last year.
This momentum follows the removal of bureaucratic obstacles and the facilitation of exports from the Gaza Strip under the supervision of COGAT, the Israeli unit said.
Civil policies promoted by COGAT's Coordination and Liaison Administration for the Gaza Strip have nourished expanded exports of various agricultural produce, it added. ■
