RIO DE JANEIRO, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Corinthians have appointed former Porto boss Vitor Pereira as their head coach for the 2022 season, the Brazilian club said on Wednesday.
The 53-year-old replaces Sylvinho, who was sacked earlier this month after a poor run of results.
"The decision took longer than we expected but the result is exactly what we wanted," Corinthians president Dulio Monteiro said in a video posted by the club on social media.
"We welcome a guy who is a serial winner. He's now going to experience working at a unique club with passionate fans."
Pereira's 20-year coaching career has also included spells in charge of Olympiacos, Fenerbahce, 1860 Munich and Shanghai SIPG, among other clubs.
He has been out of work since parting ways with Fenerbahce in December. ■
