TEHRAN, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- At least three people were killed in a warplane crash in Iran's northwestern city of Tabriz on Monday morning, Iran's Tasnim news agency reported.
The victims were the pilot, co-pilot and a civilian, an official in Red Crescent Society of Tabriz was quoted as saying.
The F-5 warplane, which had flown from the Shahid Fakuri second Air Base in Tabriz in East Azarbaijan Province, hit the wall of a school that was closed, according to the official.
Relief agencies and the military are carrying out a rescue operation. A fire that erupted following the crash has been extinguished, the report said.
The cause of the incident is under investigation, it added. ■
