AMMAN, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- Jordan has tightened controls of its border with Syria in Mafraq governorate in northern Jordan to combat cross-border drug trafficking.

The Jordanian military announced on Feb. 17 that its soldiers had killed 30 suspected smugglers and confiscated 17,348 pieces of hashish sheets and more than 16 million narcotic pills, since the implementation of the new rules of engagement on the borders.
