BUCHAREST, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- Romanian police have detained a Brazilian woman at Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport after she tried to enter the country last Monday with one kilogram of cocaine concealed in her stomach, said a press release issued on Friday by the country's Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT).
The woman was taken to hospital, where the cocaine capsules have been removed from her body.
Romania forms part of the Balkan route used for drug smuggling.
Cocaine is usually shipped from south America in large quantities through Romania's Black Sea ports and is mainly intended for markets outside the country. Last summer, half a tonne of cocaine arrived in Romania concealed in a shipment of about 20 tonnes of bananas from Colombia. ■
