BERLIN, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- Although German companies were in the process of digitizing their operations, services and products, they only rated their own level of digitization as adequate, the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) said on Friday.
The biggest challenge of digitization was the complexity of converting existing systems, according to a survey among almost 4,300 companies. Lack of time, high costs, and insufficient digital skills of employees were also slowing down digitization.
Although German companies further stepped up their digitization efforts last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the "big leap is still missing," DIHK noted.
For one in two German companies, greater flexibility and new working models were the main reasons for digitization, followed by customer loyalty and demand with 40 percent, according to the survey. ■
