JERUSALEM, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Israeli defense electronics company Elbit Systems on Monday unveiled the Skylark 3 Hybrid, a double-engine small tactical unmanned aerial system (STUAS).
The new military UAS will be showcased at the Singapore Airshow from Tuesday to Friday.
Equipped with a hybrid propulsion system, both an electric and an internal combustion engine, the combustion engine enables the drone to fly rapidly to the area of interest (AOI) and switch to the silent electrical engine when operating above it.
This triples endurance, offering up to 18 hours of operations with no change to size or weight, significantly increases the effectiveness of mission and efficiency of cost, the company said.
It can carry a wide array of payloads and require no infrastructure for takeoff and landing.
With a 4.7-meter wingspan, a maximum takeoff weight of 50 kg, a service ceiling of 12,000 feet and a range of 120 km, Skylark 3 Hybrid is based on Elbit's Skylark family of STUAS that have been ordered by 27 countries so far. ■
