NEW DELHI, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Indian government has banned the import of drones with certain exceptions in order to promote the domestic manufacturing of drones.
"Import of drones in Completely-Built-Up (CBU), Semi-Knocked-Down (SKD) or Completely-Knocked-Down (CKD) form is prohibited," reads the notification issued by Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday.
The government agency said the ban is with exceptions for government entities and educational institutions recognized by the government.
Meanwhile, the import of drones in the cited forms for the research and development purposes, and for the defense and security purposes, is allowed only with authorization by the DGFT.
The notification, however, said the import of drone components do not need approvals. ■
