RIO DE JANEIRO, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Argentina international winger Cristian Pavon is close to joining Atletico Mineiro from Boca Juniors, the Brazilian club's vice president said on Wednesday.
Pavon's contract with Boca is due to expire in June and he is free to sign a pre-contract with another club under FIFA rules.
"I like him as a footballer and I think it would be a great achievement for Atletico," Jose Procopio said in an interview broadcast on social media. "He is a great player and adds something [to Atletico's squad]."
Pavon has made 164 appearances for Boca and scored 36 goals since joining the Argentine giants from Talleres in 2014.
The 26-year-old, who has been capped 11 times for Argentina, has also had spells at La Galaxy and Colon in his 10-year professional career. ■
