BEIJING, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Gan Rongkun, a former senior official of central China's Henan Province, has been indicted on charges of taking bribes, the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) said Wednesday.
Gan had been a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China Henan Provincial Committee and secretary of the political and legal affairs commission of the provincial Party committee, the SPP said in a statement.
Gan's case has been filed by the People's Procuratorate of Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, to the city's intermediate people's court.
The indictment charged Gan with taking advantage of his various posts at the General Administration of Customs of China and Beijing Customs as well as in provinces of Hubei, Heilongjiang and Henan to seek benefits for others and accepting huge sums of money and gifts in return.
The prosecutors had informed the defendant of his litigation rights, interrogated him and listened to the defense counsel's opinions, the SPP said. ■
