MACAO, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- The number of visitor arrivals in China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) rose 25.4 percent year on year to 113,699 during the Chinese New Year holiday from Jan. 31 to Feb. 6, the tourism office of the Macao SAR government has said.

The office attributed the rise to loosened customs clearances near the holiday thanks to eased epidemic situation in neighboring cities as well as a series of traditional Chinese New Year performances staged in Macao during the holiday week.

On Thursday last week, the third day of the Lunar New Year, Macao recorded nearly 22,000 visitor arrivals, the highest single-day volume during the "Golden Week," said the office.

Meanwhile, hotel occupancy rate in Macao rose 15.2 percentage points year on year to 63.8 percent on average during the holidays, according to data provided by businesses in the industry.

The tourism office said it will continue promoting Macao as a safe destination for tourists from the Chinese mainland and offering more discounts for air tickets and hotel rooms to facilitate recovery of the local tourism industry from the pandemic.
