MEXICO CITY, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Martin Nervo and Jairo Torres struck first-half goals as Atlas rose to second in Mexico's Liga MX standings on Sunday with a 2-1 home win over Santos Laguna.

Nervo put the hosts ahead just before the half-hour mark when his downward header from a Julio Furch corner deflected in off a defender's arm.

Jairo Torres doubled the lead on the stroke of halftime with a low drive into the far corner following a 70-yard clearance from goalkeeper Camilo Vargas.

Colombia international forward Harold Preciado pulled a late goal back when he toe-poked home from the edge of the six-yard box after Eduardo Aguirre's pass from behind the halfway line.

The result left Atlas with 10 points from four matches, trailing leaders Puebla on goal difference, while Santos Laguna dropped to 17th in the 18-team standings with just a point so far.

Earlier on Sunday, Puebla continued their fine start to the season with a 2-0 victory at Queretaro courtesy of goals from Lucas Maia and Juan Segovia.
