AHMADI GOVERNORATE, Kuwait, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- The 20th International Camel Racing Championship, which will last for 6 days, was launched Saturday in Ahmadi Governorate, Kuwait.
The camels participated in the race wear robot jockeys, which control the whips and reins to monitor and transmit the speed and heart rate of the camels, to replace human jockeys.
Camels have been deeply rooted and cherished in Arab culture.
In ancient times, camel racing used to be the most anticipated event of festivities, like weddings and ceremonies; nowadays, it has still been popular among Arabs. Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait, have been continuing the tradition of organizing camel racing.
