HANOI, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- A total of 121 people were killed and 138 others injured in 216 traffic accidents across Vietnam during the nine-day Lunar New Year holiday that ended on Sunday, according to the country's Traffic Police Department.
The figures posted a year-on-year decline of 10.4 percent, 17.4 percent, and 7.3 percent in deaths, injuries and accidents number, respectively, the Vietnam News Agency cited the department as reporting on Sunday.
The traffic police forces nationwide are reported to have dealt with over 25,700 traffic law violations during the holiday, imposing a total fine of more than 25 billion Vietnamese dong (1.1 million U.S. dollars) and revoking some 2,100 driving licenses.
A total of 11,454 traffic accidents took place in Vietnam in 2021, killing over 5,700 people and injuring nearly 8,000 others, according to the country's General Statistics Office. ■
