LJUBLJANA, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Slovenia's exports of goods jumped to 39.4 billion euros (about 45 billion U.S. dollars) last year, up 19.8 percent compared to 2020, and imports rose by 30.8 percent to 42 billion euros, the country's national statistics office said on Friday.
"The trade deficit amounted to 2.6 billion euros and was the highest in the past ten years," the office said in a report.
Germany accounted for 17.3 percent of all exports, followed by Switzerland, Italy, Croatia and Austria. Main import partners also included Germany, as well as Italy, Switzerland, China and Austria.
China was Slovenia's fourth main import partner, with 10 percent of all Slovenia's imports coming from the Asian country last year.
One of the major drivers of the economy, Slovenia's main exports include cars, car parts, pharmaceutical products and household appliances.
Slovenia's economy was badly hit by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 when the country's gross domestic product (GDP) shrank by 4.2 percent. Last year, the economic growth reached about 6.5 percent, according to estimates by the government's macroeconomic institute. ■
