BRASILIA, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- Brazil and Peru on Thursday reaffirmed their willingness to "continue making progress in building a strategic alliance" between the two countries.
Following a meeting in the city of Porto Velho in Brazil's northern state of Rondonia, Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro and his Peruvian counterpart Pedro Castillo issued a joint statement that the initiative is founded on the historical ties of friendship between the two nations, the extensive shared border, and the two economies' potential for complementarity and integration.
They agreed to create a working group to explore ways to "facilitate the movement of cargo and people at the border, and help optimize the use of the Interoceanic Highway," and promote new trade and investment flows.
The two leaders also discussed border, defense, security and humanitarian cooperation matters, and the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. ■
