RIO DE JANEIRO, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- Corinthians have sacked manager Sylvinho following the team's 2-1 home defeat to rivals Santos on Wednesday.
The 47-year-old former Barcelona defender led the Brazilian Serie A outfit to 16 wins, 14 draws and 13 losses after taking charge last May.
"After the game we had a meeting and decided to terminate the contract with the manager and reorganize things," Corinthians president Duilio Alves said in a video published on the club's official website.
"I'd like to thank Sylvinho for his hard work and dedication. Tomorrow (Thursday) we will have a new meeting to decide what the next steps are."
Despite Wednesday's result, Corinthians remain top of their group with four points from three matches so far. ■
