MACAO, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- Musicians in China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) have written new songs to extend their best wishes to the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics which will open on Feb. 4.
"On ice and snow, we set sail facing the light," start the lyrics of the song "Ice and Snow Shining Light". Sung by Macao tenor Liu Naiqi, the song lauds ice and snow sports and athletes with fast and strong rhythms.
"I hope this song can demonstrate the power of the Olympics and help Macao residents feel the spirits of sports," said Liu, who also took part in singing Best Wishes from Beijing dedicated to the London Olympics in 2012. "It also conveys our support and best wishes for the athletes who will soon compete in Beijing."
Another new song whose title means aspirations like snow is a co-work of Casimiro de Jesus Pinto, a Portuguese musician born in Macao, and musicians in Portugal.
The locally born Portuguese musician told Xinhua that this song is an epitome of Macao playing the role of a platform linking China and Portuguese-speaking countries. "I hope it can help pass on the spirits of the Beijing Winter Olympics to Portuguese-speaking countries and publicize the games there," he said.
In addition, over 20 musicians from Macao and the Chinese mainland jointly initiated and participated in creating a song whose title means the world dashing forward.
"The Beijing Winter Olympics has served as a bridge to help musicians in Macao and the mainland to interact, communicate and sympathize with each other," said Liu Changmei, an initiator and the lyricist of the song. ■
