MADRID, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona confirmed the signing of striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on a free transfer from Arsenal on Wednesday.
The 32-year-old Gabon international has agreed a contract until the end of June 2025, although the contract also includes a clause that allows for his departure at the end of June 2023.
"I am very happy to be here and I am looking forward to starting playing. Barcelona is one of the biggest clubs in the world and it is an honor to be here," said Aubameyang, who left Arsenal after a breakdown in relations with the coach Mikel Arteta.
The striker, who has already begun training with his new club, also has a release clause of 100 million euros on his contract.
Aubameyang's arrival should help Barcelona solve some of their problems in attack after the latest injury setback suffered by Ansu Fati and Kun Aguero's forced retirement due to a heart problem.
It does, however, present Barca a problem given that they can only include three of their four January signings (Aubameyang, Adama Traore, Dani Alves and Ferran Torres) in their squad for the Europa League.
"I have plenty of experience and have played in Germany, France and England, and I hope to give everything to help the team," Aubameyang told Barcelona's official website. ■
