BEIJING, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Overseas Chinese applauded President Xi Jinping's Spring Festival greetings extended to all Chinese at a reception held here on Sunday.

In his speech, Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, on behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, noted that the new year is the Year of the Tiger, and traditional Chinese culture sees the tiger as the king of animals and a symbol of strength, bravery and fearlessness.

His greetings resonated with the audience, including those working, studying and living abroad.

Qu Lishuai, head of the 31st Chinese medical team to Tanzania's Zanzibar, said that he felt heartened by Xi's speech, and is well aware of his own responsibilities and missions.

"We will always keep in mind the spirit of China's foreign medical teams, forge ahead and wholeheartedly serve the people in the recipient country," Qu said.

Wu Qiming, head of the 19th Chinese medical team to Senegal, told Xinhua that Xi's speech brought him great inspiration and uplift.

As one of the Chinese medics who are offering medical aid to Africa, Wu said, he with his colleagues will spare no effort to fulfill the important mission and work hard to promote China-Africa friendship.

Gan Min, Chinese president of the Confucius Institute of the Royal Cambodian Academy of Sciences, said the CPC's century-long history has proven that only by striving in unity can people achieve one goal after another.

Gan also said she is profoundly encouraged by Xi's speech to stay true to her original aspirations, endeavor to promote the cultural exchange between China and Cambodia, and make her contribution to the ever-lasting friendship between the two countries.

Cao Xue, marketing director of China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone, said that Xi's speech is inspiring, adding strength to people.

Noting that TEDA has become a demonstration zone of the Belt and Road Initiative, which has benefited Egypt's economic development and the economic and trade exchanges between Egypt and China, Cao pledged to further contribute to the Belt and Road cooperation with concrete actions.

Wang Yi, a Ph.D. candidate at Seoul National University in South Korea, said she was energized by Xi's speech, adding that the achievements and history of the CPC in the past 100 years are inspiring.

With the Beijing Olympic Winter Games around the corner, Wang borrowed the official motto of the games to express her expectation for the new year: "Together for a shared future."
