TEHRAN, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- The United States and its allies are seeking to deter Iran's growing power, Ali Fadavi, deputy commander-in-chief of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), said Sunday.
Iran "has gained such great power that it has forced the enemies to pursue plans for deterrence," Fadavi was quoted as saying at a cultural event in the capital Tehran by Tasnim news agency.
His remarks came in response to the earlier comments of a commander under former U.S. President Barack Obama, who, according to Fadavi, had said Washington and its allies in the Gulf and outside waters "were trying to develop deterrent capabilities" amid Iran's growing power.
Iran's power "in the eight years of the war imposed by Iraq in the 1980s" could be mentioned as an example, Fadvi noted.
The Iranians will soon celebrate the 44th anniversary of the victory of the 1978 Islamic Revolution, in which the Iranians overcame "the evils ... led by the United States," he said. ■
