MOSCOW, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Russia registered 98,040 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, the highest single-day increase to date, taking the national tally to 11,502,657, the official monitoring and response center said Friday.
The country's nationwide death toll grew by 673 to 329,443, while the number of recoveries increased by 29,506 to 10,159,197.
Meanwhile, Moscow, Russia's worst-hit region, reported 23,994 new cases, taking its total to 2,283,416.
There are currently 1,014,017 active cases in Russia, while the mortality rate from COVID-19 infections stands at 2.86 percent. ■
