JERUSALEM, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- About 1,700 athletes from 12 countries participated in the annual Israman iron and half iron distance triathlon events on Friday inside and near the Red Sea in Israel's southernmost resort city of Eilat.
The full iron competition consisted of a 3.8-kilometer swim, a 180km bike ride, and a full marathon 42.2km run.
The men's victory went to Israel's Dan Alterman, with a result of nine hours, 52 minutes and 28 seconds, while his compatriot Limor Hagani took the women's title in 11:48:49.
The two winners each received a prize of 10,000 shekels, or 3,129 U.S. dollars. ■
