As Chinese New Year nears, people in Shaoxing, east China's Zhejiang Province are busy preparing cured meat.

Cured meat made with traditional soy sauce, yellow rice wine and spices is a local specialty. It is common to see preserved meat aired along the streets in Shaoxing each winter.

The ancient town of Anchang in Shaoxing is well-known for cured sausage. As an ancient town with a history of over 1,000 years, Anchang has kept alive the traditional custom of curing meat in winter. (Photos provided by Gaojie)
