Mideast in Pictures: Several Mideast countries report record daily COVID-19 infections!

CAIRO, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Countries in the Middle East are seeing new surge in daily COVID-19 cases amid the fast spread of the Omicron variant.

Iraq reported on Wednesday 8,107 new COVID-19 cases, the highest daily count in 2022, raising the nationwide caseload to 2,175,793.

Lebanon registered 8,639 COVID-19 infections on the same day, the highest daily cases since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country, bringing the total tally of infections to 882,783.

Israel on Tuesday reported 83,653 new COVID-19 cases, the highest daily figure since the coronavirus outbreak in the country in February 2020, making the total number of infections to 2,488,924.

Turkey reported 77,434 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, raising its tally of infections to 11,167,927.
