BRATISLAVA, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Bottom team BC Prievidza managed to win its second match of the season after outscoring BC Komarno 94-85 in the Slovak Basketball League on Saturday.
In what became just the second victory in 19 rounds played, BC Prievidza took the lead away from the visitors in the second period and built a 12-point lead at halftime.
Prievidza managed to hold on to it and cruised to a rare 94-85 victory, putting an end to a 3-game losing streak. Its American guard Alonzo Walker had 30 points, 20 rebounds, and eight assists.
"I usually don't commend individual players, but Prievidza's Walker played a terrific game. His offensive rebounds gave his team second chances to score. They showed a great team effort today. It's a slap in the face for us. We were preparing for today's game but it turned into our worst performance of the season. Our defense was exceptionally bad," said Komarno coach Zlatko Jovanovic.
Elsewhere, Iskra Svit lost to BKM Lucenec 91-86 while BC Komarno edged past Iskra Svit 94-79. Levice Patriots ran away with a 90-77 victory against MBK Banik Handlova.
Due to COVID-19, only four out of the eight initially scheduled matches were able to be played. ■
